Spread the love

There is a haunting, poetic quality about this wine – knowing it is the first and last time this Riesling will be produced. The wine is incredibly impactful, arresting your senses with an amplitude of aromas. A medium lemon colour is a preview of its intensity with confidence that follows suit. Enjoy its aromatic medley of cling peach, baby apricot and ripe quince with mandarin, adding a bitter citrus aroma with a touch of Neroli. Secondary notes add broader strokes of honeycomb, nougat, almonds and cinnamon and a sweet candy note of mango and pineapple. Tasting the wine, a savoury lift of dried oregano and orange pith adds an old-world elegance with a mouth-filling character of a marmalade and lemon buttercream engulfing your palate – a vivid display of what it promised on the nose but with an elevated seam of freshness. Albeit of dry, a lively acidity brightens the palate and weaves freshness into the concentration of the wine with an earthy, almost salted caramel richness balancing the minerality. The wine has phenomenal staying power, youthful with excellent ageing potential to unlock more character.

Cultivar: Riesling

Alcohol 13% vol

Swansong is a concept wine, where the last wine is made from a vineyard that is ear-marked to be pulled out in the year of vintage. This is the last offering from a 20 plus year block of Weisser Riesling, which stood proud in the Durbanville inner valley.

Cellaring Potential of 5 to 7 years

Food Pairing

To be enjoyed on its own or as an accompaniment to spicy foods, curries and sushi.
